review 1: I got ahold of this book after a school library sale. Started in the car home, and couldn't put it down. I loved the plot, the subtle humour and romance... Just loved it. A small part of my family is from Mexico, which made the story even more interesting seeing as I learned some of the traditional customs I hadn't heard of before (eg the wedding dress).God, I loved the little movie quotes at the beginning of chapters and cleverly embedded among the dialogue. I shouldn't get this excited about some quotes but it just made the book that much more unique. The front cover I'm not too keen on though. It puts a false expectation of clichéd romance in your head before you open the book, which annoyed me to say the least. Even despite the inclusion of the drunk marriage, the wri... moreter marvellously maintained a non-clichéd plot. Good job, seeing as nearly everything is a tasteless cliché in today's teen literature. All in all, this book is definitely worth the four stars (I'm saving the five for something beginning with The Fault...) and I would recommend it to teens about my age (15), give or take a few years.
review 2: What a novel!! The opening chapter really grabs you and makes you WANT to fit things together.Kylie Flores is the perfect high strung valedictorian who finds herself in Mexico in a bed with Max,the resident hottie, wearing wedding rings. It is just like the John Hughes movies about wild teenage escapades I've seen.Kylie and Max are two well built characters that form half of the group that narrate this book. Will is the gay, cross dressing best friend of Kylie and Lilly is the bitchy girlfriend of Max that make up the rest and the multiple POV's that they give really make this a fun romp to go through.Along the way you learn that everyone has secrets that no one wants to share, but that they eventually do, and really doesn't make things any harder. If you want a great summer read you can't go wrong with picking this book up. less
