review 1: I almost bought a digital copy of this, then I noticed the hardcover in my 'unread' pile this morning. (Oh yeah, I bought this when it came out! Duh.)This is a great, full-color, Usagi story. It's done in watercolors, by Sakai himself, and it's gorgeous. It's rare to see anything other than computer coloring done these days. There's an interview with Sakai at the end of the book, where he explains a bit about the technique used here. It's pretty interesting. The story itself can by enjoyed as a simple stand-alone story. You don't really need to know anything about Usagi to enjoy it. (But if you are a long-time fan, you will of course love it.)
review 2: This is a stand alone 55 page story written to commemorate Usagi Yojimbo's 25th Anniversary. Usagi follows th
... moree trail of an abducted child and stumbles upon an encounter with monsters, demons and spirits on a scale he's not ready for. The story is pretty light and not quite up to the standards I expect from Usagi Yojimbo, but it is ok and features a fan favorite supporting character. Action and numerous pages of attacking yokai are the order of the day here. The art, on the other hand, is a real treat. It is the usual fantastic base art by Sakai, but is brought to another level by being painted in full color (as opposed to the normal black and white the series uses.At the end of the book is a 4 page interview with Sakai who goes over the art process and gives thoughts on the series. While the story itself isn't really great, the other elements elevate this to being the fitting tribute it was intended to be. A good pick up for fans of the series. less

Not long enough for me to get interested in the characters or what was happening for me.

This was just weird. I didn't care for it. On to the next graphic novel.
