The Torch Keeper
review 1: Steven dos Santos has done it again with the second installment of The Torch Keeper Series. If you thought "The Culling" was an incredible read, wait til you get your hands on "The Sowing." The story line continues with our hero Lucian “Lucky” Spark in training and working against The Establishment. Steven dos Santos has such a gift for descriptive writing that you feel you are right there in the story. He manages to introduce a new cast of characters while maintaining distinct voices and the same type of intense plot and emotional roller coaster as the first book. Dos Santos pays so close attention to detail that you can't help but visualize every part of Lucky's world. The plot has twists and turns that will make you want to continue to flip each page, and a cliff-ha... morenger ending that will have you craving for that third book right now! If you liked The Culling, and if you want to see how a great author writes, you will LOVE "The Sowing!
review 2: For me, it’s rare to like a sequel as much or more than the original novel, but in the case of The Sowing, it’s true. The Sowing picks up with Lucian “Lucky” Spark in Imposer training, while also taking covert actions against The Establishment. Author Steven dos Santos does a fabulous job of leading the reader back into Lucky’s world, re-acquainting us with the surviving characters from The Culling, and introducing us to a whole new cast of characters (some of whom will also die in brutal and macabre ways!). Dos Santos has a true gift for drawing the story in directions the reader will not expect. There are surprises throughout the wonderful unfurling plot, leading up to a tantalizing cliff-hanger of an ending that makes you long for the third book to be available like yesterday. I read this entire book in less than three hours, unable to put it down for any reason. I cried, I exclaimed, I cursed the author to the point that my dog started to think I was insane. But that is the hallmark of a great author – he can bring you into the story so deeply that you develop emotional attachments to the characters. If you liked The Culling, you will LOVE The Sowing! less
