review 1: As with Walter Isaacson, I eventually get around to reading all of Steven Levy’s books (I read his epic Hackers: Heroes of the Computer Revolution in 1984 as a freshman at MIT and it has stayed with me ever since.) His Google book was awesome – much better than How Google Works. I learned a ton I didn’t know, especially about history that had either been ignored, glossed over, or repurposed. If you have any interest, relationship with, or curiosity about Google, this is the book for you.

That theme has remained the same over the years, even if the ways they make it happen are sometimes impenetrable to those outside the company. As someone who can spend hours daily surfing around the riches available on the World Wide Web, I applaud their original goals, even if the implementation of those goals can seem heavy-handed at times: because of their intelligence, and their motto of "Don't be evil," Googlers assume they can decide what is best for society. I'm not convinced that is always the case...highly recommended for those wanting to know the inner workings of a very successful internet startup. less

Entertaining and informative, but Levy's access came at the price of a loss of objectivity.

Interesting and introspective read on the founding, growth and the processes of Google.

Fairly informative and relatively non-biased. Written at a high-school level.
