review 1: I dig his voice (both his authorial and his actual voice -- reading his prose, you can really hear him saying the things he writes!), and I have come to Steven via Paleo and "Manual Illiteracy" (the notion that we lack a lot of manual skills, such as hunting/cleaning meat, food gathering, etc.). I'm not off on the Doomsday Prepper tip (but there does seem to be some sensibility in maybe having a decent pantry and some fresh water socked away...).Anyway: this was a quick read with lots of great stories about hunts and his television show of the same name as the book. Recommended for all you carnivores out there.

... moreavailable from the store. That said I really enjoyed this book. It was interesting, humorous, and entertaining. More than that, the book made we want to go outside, it made me hungry, and it helped me to gain a renewed appreciation of the wild that is just outside my door living in the American West. And yes, the book also helped me to view hunting and hunters in a new and different light. Overall, I recommend this book highly. less
