We’re getting spooky at Bloomsbury Reader as we draw closer to All Hallow’s Eve. To celebrate some of the spine-chilling horror on our list, we have teamed up with Horror Lounge from 25-31 October, a new virtual festival celebrating all things horror, both classic and contemporary.
As part of Horror Lounge, all of our Graham Masterton books are on sale for a limited time at £1.99. A renowned horror writer, Masterton was awarded the Edgar award by the Mystery Writers of America for Charnel House and a silver medal by the West Coast Review of Books for Mirror. His first novel The Manitou was published in 1976 and adapted for the film in 1978. Read an interview with Graham Masterton here.
‘[Masterton is] One of the few true masters of the horror genre’ – James Herbert
Horror Lounge is also shining a light on the master of the macabre, Dennis Wheatley, and to give you the chance to revisit these horror classics or to discover them for the first time, a range of Dennis Wheatley ebooks are on sale for a limited time at £1.99.
As well as being a bestselling author of over seventy books, Wheatley was a member of the London Controlling Section during WW2, which secretly coordinated strategic military deception and cover plans. He wrote numerous papers for the War Office, including suggestions for dealing with a German invasion of Britain. His flair for invention influenced his war-work, and, after his dalliance with espionage, his war work no doubt influenced his fiction.
‘The word thriller has never been more aptly bestowed’ – praise for The Devil Rides Out in The News Chronicle
‘Dennis Wheatley was a household name as a bestselling author who had sold over 50 million books worldwide, and who was only outshone by the likes of Agatha Christie,’ says Charles Beck in his article for Horror Lounge. Head on over and read about this fascinating man who thrilled, entertained, and frightened so many, from J. J. Abrams and Neil Gaiman to Alex Bell.
You’ll also find an interview with Laura Purcell, author of The Silent Companions, a chilling Victorian ghost story, full of Gothic charm and hair-raising tension, currently Simon Mayo’s Radio 2 Book Club choice.
