King of Thorns by Mark Lawrence
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
Ah sweet Jorg. Jorgy Jorg.
What horrors, Lawrence can you drown me in now?
Our second instalment of the Broken Empire left me feeling empty and full all at once. A degree better than the first this book flicks between the past (for us) and the present. We know something has happened to Jorg but we don’t find out until the end of the book, which ties in nicely with the parallel story telling from the different time periods.
I won’t say too much about the plot as it is the second book in the series, however I will say it was very cleverly thought out, and you can definitely see how Lawrence has progressed in his writing since writing book one.
I love Gog, I love Makin and I love Jorg – the characters are much better, more driven and more fulfilled. The world is more fleshed out, and the description so bloody you feel covered.
It feels with me anticipation (and dread) for the last instalment. He’s not afraid is Mark Lawrence to do the worst.
