Lost In You
review 1: I received this book from the author in exchange for my honest review. Wow this book was amazing. I could not put it down, it had me hooked right from the start. It is an emotional, heart-wrenching read. Both Amber and Marcus have lived through devastating pasts. They lean on each other to help them get through their pasts to move forward. The connection between Amber and Marcus was so amazing. You felt how much they needed each other and loved each other. Amber was such a strong character, for everything that she went through. Yes she had her problems with what happened but she was finally able to open up about them and work to get through that. Marcus was an amazing book boyfriend, even though he was your typical bad boy he cared and protected Amber he never gave up on t... morehem or her. I also really loved Chase and Jordan they helped with the fun side of the book. I cannot wait to read the next book in the series to see what happens next.
review 2: “No one on campus has recognized me yet as the girl whose tragedy was splashed across the front-page news…and I want to keep it that way.”—AmberDon’t attract attention. Don’t show the scars. Force the memories away. After being kidnapped and tortured for three weeks by a stalker “in love” with her, Amber’s been trying to pick up the pieces as a college freshman. No one knows about her past, and she wants to keep it that way. But with frequent nightmares causing her to scream at night, flashbacks during the day, and history repeating itself, Amber’s reaching her breaking point. With Marcus by her side, a fellow student who understands loss, guilt, and pain, two damaged souls find the strength and courage to face their past demons…“Something stirs inside me. Hope, maybe.”—MarcusThis was such a beautiful and emotional story about a young woman’s struggle after a horrific event. Although there are some entertaining moments, the story has some dark themes and topics and were so difficult to read at times. The author handles the sensitive topics really well and respectfully without being graphic. Although we don’t know exactly what happened to Amber at the start of the book, we’re shown glimpses and brief flashbacks that do a great job of showing the horror Amber went through without being graphic while adding tension to the story. It’s very easy to connect with the characters and feel sympathetic. Amber is suffering from PTSD from her kidnapping the year before and coupled with the fact that she feels responsible for her stalker’s actions (survivor’s guilt), her first year in college is dark for her. However, she’s determined to follow one of the dreams she has left—to be a veterinarian—and works hard to do it, despite the fact that her world seems to be crumbling around her. While her world crumbles, she has Marcus falling for her, wanting to help gather the pieces. His past is dark. Waaaaay dark. Calling his family dysfunctional would be an understatement. It’s easier for him to have one-night stands instead of an actual relationship. He’s pretty sure he doesn’t deserve to have anyone love him. But, he’ll do what he can to help those around him since he couldn’t save the one person who mattered most to him.I loved witnessing the relationship between Marcus and Amber grow. Initially wanting him to tutor her in math and pretend to be her boyfriend to keep guys away from her, her fear and distrust slowly fades. While Amber tries to conquer her fears, Marcus has his own demons to battle, not knowing that Amber may be the key to help him defeat his own nightmares. The book was very hard to put down since I absolutely loved the characterization and easily loved both Amber and Marcus (and their best friends whom I really, really hope will get their own book with each other!). The author did such an amazing job showing the stress and fear that both Amber and Marcus are facing. Told in alternating first person point of views, we get to read both of their viewpoints. Romance-wise, there’s a short low to medium heat scene. If I had to name one flaw, it did seem like there were many coincidences to keep the plot going (Amber and Marcus really did run into each other a lot at the start and there was a lot of sexual violence in their lives that I hope isn’t really as prevalent in real life). This is a 5 out of 5 for me!(Originally posted on my blog; I received a Netgalley copy in exchange for an honest and unbiased review.) less

I wasn't a fan of this book. The characters felt flat and the plot contrived.
