review 1: Ayris has a great voice in this book. I usually don't like things that are overly cheerful, but he seems to have a singular talent for creating a sense of joy and optimism in the midst of a not all that joyful string of events. His voice is playful and lyrical, and not at all flowery, and the story is engaging. Unfortunately, the second book in the trilogy completely disappointed me. It had a similar tone and style, but was much more forced. A huge part of the charm of this book is how natural it feels, and it seems like he just lost steam. So, my suggestion: READ THIS BOOK...and then move on.
review 2: "Tollesbury Time Forever" by Stuart Ayris is a confusing book - and not just because it is about a schizophrenic man and his delusions. I quite enjoyed the ramb
... moreling nonsense of his psychotic episode (although just how authentic that was is debatable) in the first half. The second half, however, was just not very good. There were medical reports interspersed with more ramblings, but the reappearance of his wife and child (I will say no more, lest someone reads it!) was unrealistic to say the least. And when the author inserted himself as a character near the end, he lost me... He also seems to be advocating leaving insane people unmedicated contrary to the advice of their doctors. Weird. Very weird. I can't bear badly constructed endings. less
