review 1: Absolutely loved this book! I didn't know of Tillie until deciding to read this book, but I am sure glad that I did! What an amazing obstacle to overcome in that time period, and she did it with an exclamation point. Breaking records, shocking the world - talk about encouraging children to follow their dreams! This biography is simple to bring into a children's classroom, but it is an eye opener to our history and the strides women have made along the way. I will definitely use this in my classroom in the future!
review 2: *Great read during Women's History Month. **A remarkable woman who would not let society's expectations stop her from achieving her dream.Tillie came to America with a needle and a dream. Her first job was in a tailor's shop. One day a man

Her mother was horrified. Folks were mortified and some stopped speaking to her due to her scandalous outfits. (1890's) 1st race--100 miles and broke the record by 18 minutesRode Velodrome--6 days, women race 1.5 hours in the afternoon and 1.5 hours in the evening. The organizers put her with the slowest group but Tillie won.Men thought that a woman racer was not lady like during this time period. They thought it was too man-like and a sin. (1890's)Doctors examined Tillie to see the effects of a strenuous exercise on a woman. Doctors said she was a mass of muscle and published a picture of her leg muscles in the newspaper. Her mother was horrified.Tillie eventually married her manager Phillip. After racing through the 1890's winning and breaking records, eventually her new love came driving a motorcar! less
