review 1: I really enjoyed reading the Boyfriend Bylaws. It's a lovely balance of humor, romance, realism, friendship, family issues, and love. The main characters have worked together at a gym for awhile as good friends. Matt has deeper feelings for Melanie but can't get her to take him serious. Melanie is too busy looking for love in all the wrong places to give Matt a chance. But after too many bad choices her best friend and roommate, Patti, convinces Mel to live by a set of "boyfriend bylaws" for dating designed to force Melanie into thinking before dating. This book was funny (the closet scene is hilarious), heartwarming, and ends with more than one kind of HEA for sweet Melanie.
review 2: synopsis:mel has just been dumped by her "love of her life". unfortunately, ... moreit's a pattern that she has been on since she started dating; she's in love with love, and not the men she goes out with. her best friend patti sets up dating rules so that mel can't make the same mistakes again. mel has feelings for matt, the guy that she works with, but has been told by a co-worker that he's a player. when she finds out that was a lie, mel takes a chance on matt, and breaks patti's rules in the process.what i liked: the execution. i liked mel and matt, and patti. i liked that someone took control of mel's love life, as she definitely had no clue what love or even a relationship looked like.what i didn't like: how short the story felt. it felt like there was so much more that could have been told. i also didn't like how mel treated her step-sister. the step-sister seemed to really like mel and consider her a sister, and mel just never went beyond "the daughter of my father's wife". less
