Liz Talbot Mystery
review 1: I enjoyed this cozy murder mystery set in the island of Stella Maris off the South Carolina coast. Author Susan M. Boyer did a good job with her first novel. Although I found the pile up of murders unlikely, the action in the novel kept rolling along so fast you didn't have time to think about it. Private investigator Liz Talbot left her beloved home to avoid the painful feelings resulting from her own stupid mistakes, marrying a jerk (who she has divorced), and seeing her high school sweetheart married to her scheming cousin. However, when she finds out her grandmother has been murdered, she hightails it back for the funeral and to try to uncover the murderer among the longtime residents of the island. She inherits her grandmother's home and estate plus the residents' des... moreire to keep the island un-commercialized. Complicating the murder is the public furor over an attempt to sell some of the pristine waterfront to an outside group who wants to have a day camp for troubled teens. Her sister Merry is all for it and it appears that possibly some of the town council members have promised their votes as well. Liz's private investigation skills come in use despite having to circumvent her protective brother who is the police chief. Romantic interests proliferate right along with all the murder suspects. And to top it all off, Liz's old friend Colleen, who committed suicide in high school, drops in as a guardian angel to give Liz some tips. The addition of some paranormal elements added an interesting fillip to the fast-paced plot and gave Liz some inside information that is hard to explain to her police chief brother.
review 2: Fun read. Her grandmother's death brings PI Liz Talbot home to Stella Maris a glorious island near Charleston, SC. When she discovers she's inherited her grandmother's home - property that has been in the family since forever - and her police chief brother tells her that their grandmother was killed - Liz decides to move home and do a bit of investigating on the side. This book maintains a lighthearted style while telling a story of murder and mayhem. The characters, story, setting and resolution are all believable. This mystery, dished up with a good dose of southern charm, is a must read. Looking forward to the next offering from this author. less

A good story, moments of suspense, good mystery, halting romance, also a mystery.

A fast read with a well written mystery and a paranormal element as an add on.
