review 1: "Already Home" by Susan Mallery was on my TBR list for quite some time. I must admit when I first started to read, I was unsure if I would be able to finish it. Then all at once, I found the part of the story that involved my attention.Jenna is a sous-chef and after her marriage dissolves she runs home to Georgetown, Texas. She decides to open a kitchen store and puts down a deposit on a spot she falls in love with. She proceeds to spent all her finances on getting this story set up. Jenna keeping busy with the start up of her store and dealing with the pain of her broken marriage keeps her distance from old friends. At the local grocery store Jenna literally runs into Cliff. Cliff joins her cooking classes at her new store. They become friends and Jenna finds herse... morelf interested in Cliff. One day a woman named Serenity walks into her store. Serenity is odd, way over the top odd. I didn't care for her "hippie" ways of talking and behaving. Reminded me of my teens years in the 70's. I almost stopped reading the book at this point as I was still unable to become involved.I eventually found the part of the story that grabbed me and finished reading. I was not surprised in the least to discover that Serenity and her husband were Jenna's biology parents. I pretty much knew that the whole reason Serenity knew it was time to discover her daughter is because she was dying. So no surprise to discover I was right.Overall, the story is decent. The story is not your usual romance novel but more a story about love and life.
review 2: Predictable. I figured out what would happen well before it actually did. Adopted Jenna goes home after a divorce and starts a business she knows nothing about. She hires Violet, a woman who did whatever it took to survive on the streets. Jenna makes mistakes, Violet fixes them.Jenna's hippy biological family comes into her life, and Violet meets the "perfect" man. Jenna's adopted mom encourages her to get to know her birth parents (while secretly anxious that she will lose Jenna). Violet's perfect man turns out to be horrible. The hippy bio-mom is pushy and inserts herself in almost every part of Jenna's life, only to reveal she is dying in the end. less
