review 1: I never would have picked up this book had it not been given to me as a gift, but I'm so glad I read it. It was actually pretty fascinating, all the descriptions of how search dogs are trained and what it's actually like out in the field with them - the detective-like stories of this case or that case. Charleson wrote with such strong visual detail that the book flowed more like a fictional narrative than a memoir. Very engaging and even at times suspenseful. I recommend it to all dog-lovers or anyone interested in search and rescue.
review 2: I really enjoyed reading about Puzzle the Golden Retriever puppy's transformation into an adult Search & Rescue dog. She is quite a character and Ms. Charleson brings her (& to a lesser extent the other dogs) to life in
... morethis memoir. I also loved the author's quirky humorous tone to the book (there are many very quotable lines that made me laugh). At times the author takes off on a tangent to explain Search & Rescue which interrupts the narrative but may be necessary if the reader isn't very familiar with the topic. Overall an instructive and interesting read with some adorable and hilarious moments. less

Too much on certification (which got to be boring)...not enough on finding the missing...
