dressmaking

Today I would like to talk about dressmaking. Although nothing to do with Patchwork and Quilting it was my first love in the sewing world. I often hear the comment “Why would you make your own clothes when they are so cheap in the shops?”  I will agree you can pick up everyday things quite cheaply but good quality garments are expensive.  So there is a list of advantages to making your own – quality, comfort, affordability, SATISFACTION.  Dressmaking is making a comeback  worldwide. Here in Australia Bernina is lucky enough to have on board Tara Moss.  She also has a  blog victorylamour.com

BERNINA Australia is pleased (and excited!) to announce our support of a new vlog series ‘Sewing Vintage with Tara Moss’ hosted by Tara Moss.

These videos are a lot of fun and if it gets you into the dressmaking mood I would like to let you know that I have small but lovely range of Linens and 100% cottons perfect for all types of clothing.

Another exciting discovery recently is a range of patterns for Vogue by Marci Tilton. Her blog marcitilton.com showcases her fun yet practical patterns.

I recently made this little jacket from her pattern V8975 and I will definitely be making this again. While I don’t sell the actual patterns they are available online at VoguePatterns.

I hope to get the dress made soon and will have both on display in the shop.

If and when you need to take a break from sewing make sure you watch “The Dressmaker”.

One of my favourite movies and sure to  inspire you to get the treadly out.

Till Next time Happy Sewing

Marcelle
