review 2: I've actually only read one other title by Taamo, Wagahai wa Yome de Aru which is a collection of short stories. And, imho, I find that one of the stories is unreadable, one reason that traumatize me to start reading this title (or in that case any other titles by Taamo). For then I heard that the title is indeed one of the weakest works of her.-I think I've read quite a number of manga/light novel stories with the main character or important side character, going through some parenting problems, usually his/her parents are divorced/remarrying/passed away, some examples are Ao Haru Ride, Strobe Edge, Twinkle Stars, Yume Miru Taiyo, Nekomonogatari, Aruitou and now this.I hope it's not because it's a common issue in Japan there. So after all, I liked Taiyou no Ie.It's a very interesting work. For the most part, I'm a fan of simplicity.I really liked the simplicity of the development of the story which goes very well with Taamo's artwork. The effective use of flashback, simple interactions among the characters, the no rush pacing, and some interesting reactions of the characters to some events. Many things are seen from the spare spaces within the simplicity. And especially, some development which doesn't always go with the 'shoujo rules'.However, I find the depiction of the main character here, whose parents are divorced, remarrying, and find her as a burden to live together with, to be rather pretentious compared to the other titles I've mentioned above. What I object the most is that, despite all the struggles shown that the main character's trying to be strong, the manga much treating her like she's playing the victim. In this case, Twinkle Stars, for one example, is I think deeper for taking it into another level where the main character is challenged to be called as a victim, for then she proved not.The main character in this manga, on the other hand, actually tends to avoid facing her problems and keep running away, while the manga shown her as a victim to be sympathized, with the cellphone novel (and all the reader's reactions), and the 3rd-person-perspective side story. less
