review 1: This has got to be one of the best books I've read in a long time! I am still reeling from it! I found myself constantly laughing, not wanting to put it down, and crying so much at the end that I could hardly see the screen on my kindle! All signs of a great book! Both the hero and heroine are down-to-earth, good-to-the-core people. I found myself so wrapped up in their story. Thomas was so sweet and likeable and admirable. Phoenix, the heroine, was funny and kind and deep. Incidentally, she is from Guam...half Korean...I was so intrigued by this aspect of the story. I loved reading about Guam and the people and culture. It all just endeared the story to me that much more.Don't let the title fool you. It sounds like a light-hearted contemporary romance. It's not.... more The plot was involved and unpredictable. The characters were strong and real. The journey that this book takes you on is thought-provoking, engaging, and heart-wrenching. What a beautiful experience this book was for me!For the more sensitive reader...throughout the book, there is only occasional, mild swearing, but there are about 2 intense scenes where there are a couple of uses of an extreme word. As far as love scenes go, there really isn't much to speak of, but there are a couple of encounters that are completely un-detailed. There is innuendo, though.
review 2: In Secret Shopper, Tanya Taimanglo maps Nix's emotional journey dealing with a broken marriage, body issues and loss, while finding the courage to love again. Reeling from Bradley's infidelity, emotional and sexual detachment, she focuses on losing weight and the new job. Meeting Thomas while on assignment, Nix cannot help but acknowledge the attraction between them yet tries to walk away afraid of making another mistake. Patient and determined, Thomas does not mind being stuck in the friend zone as he waits for her love. Unconditional love and sacrifice wins the day as Nix finds her forever love with Thomas. less
