review 1: *2.5*OK – I’ll keep reading this series because I get sucked into storylines and I really want to know what happens in the end– but this book wasn’t a standout for me. I really liked Six Degrees of Lust. It was a breath of fresh air after I’d read a bunch of fairly formulaic smut books – whoa, a book with a plot and lots of characters and not just a bunch of butt sex (although there is that too).I’ve been hooked in with the story line and don’t really have a problem with the number of characters. But in this, #2 in the series, I wanted more progression of the story rather than the ongoing, continuous self-analysis of the main characters at every point – I’m sure there is a fancy literary phrase for this type of thing where the author goes over the chara... morecter traits and struggles mid-scene and in amongst the dialogue to bring tension and remind the reader of why whatever is happening is drama and blah blah blah but this happened again and again and again – it was too much and detracted from the story line when there was a bit too much going on anyway.Anyhoo I wanted more character dialogue – just a bit of too and fro between the characters showing us what was going on rather than the author “telling us” all the time.I started to skim read…quite a bit….even through some of the big scenes because I wanted the dialogue I wanted the action – I didn’t want another rehash of the *feels* yet again – we get it! He’s arrogant and doesn’t let people get close to him – you’ve told us that already [sigh]Anyhoo – will look forward to the next one – hopefully the conclusion – because I don’t want to skim the next couple of books to finally read them catch the bad guy
review 2: Taylor Donovan is an evil, evil, evil, woman, and right now I would like to steal her computer (or whatever she writes on) just so I can read the next book!!!!! Part two of the by degrees series did not disappoint me. It was just more of the same brilliant Sam and Mac. I love it when you get characters that you just adore, and that is what happened to me with Sam and Mac. I don't love one more than the other, they are equal, and often my favourite m/m reads are like that. Again, even though this book is not the end of the story, I don't care. Because once again it kind of felt like the relationship part of the story had a bit of ending. I can't wait for the next book, but not because it ended of a cliff hanger or anything, but because I love Sam and Mac, and want to read more about them. So Taylor Donovan is an evil woman for making me like characters too much!! less
