review 1: Hmmm... I have mixed feelings for this book. I didn't like the beginning, it was hard to keep going, but I do think it got better in the end. Cedirc really confused me, I didn't know whether to love or of pity the guy, and I don't know if I even liked Kevin at all. I liked that they were able to be happy together, but I think Cedric's OCD was a bit too weird for me to really enjoy this story. I'll have to come back to this book and give it another chance. Hopefully it'll grow on me:)
review 2: Well, this was only like... 200 pages too long. I forced myself through the last 20%, and just skipped the epilogue. Normally, I would have DNF:ed it, but I need some books for my 2014 challenge :SIn addition to being far, far too long, Disasterology 101 contained just ab
... moreout every cliché featured in any MM book - ever, thus very successfully living up to its name. There's the rich vs. poor guy thing, where the poor guy doesn't want to feel dependent on the rich guy, and blablabla. There's that army of supportive children (also, there are way too many children present ALL THE TIME) who show that, wow, not everyone reacts to homosexuality with disgust or surprise. Just so we know. To counteract them, there are the extreme homophobes who just have to speak their mind, repeatedly. With crowds around them. Yeah, and the scenes with crowds and people and the CONFRONTATIONS. I'm feeling slightly sick just writing this. What else? Everything else, basically. Perhaps the most notable thing is the ever-present "he doesn't love me"-crap that they always have to pull. This could, possibly, have worked in a 1st person narrative where we don't have access to the other character's thoughts, but when we do? It just gets old very, very quickly. Another thing that gets old very, very quickly are the 100 or so pages of analyzing and thinking. Considering how much analyzing and thinking the guy who isn't Cedric (see, I'm already trying to blot this book out of my mind) does, he's surprisingly stupid in like half of the book. He first spends 5 pages coming to a conclusion about how he must act and so on, and then on the subsequent page, he acts like that whole inner monologue never took place.GAH! If anyone sees me reading a book of this kind ever again, please try to stop me. less
