review 1: What happens when you are in a support group for OCD and end up falling in love with one of the group members? This is the case for our hero Adam who has many complications in his life. Not only is he plagued by his OCD but he has to deal with a hoarding mother and his father's new family. Adam feels that he is the glue that keeps everyone together and must save everyone. However, the more that he worries, the worse his compulsions become. His only saving grace is Robyn who is in his support group.I really liked this story. The author portrayed the OCD issues that Adam and his support group had without it overpowering the actual story. The characters are all likeable and you feel deep empathy for what Adam is going through.Recommendation: If you like realistic fict... moreion, then you should really pick this book up. Added bonus - Teresa Toten is Canadian!Read-a-likes: The Reluctanct Journal of Henry K. Larsen, Word Nerd, Schooled, The One and Only Ivan
review 2: When 14 year old Adam Spencer Ross falls for the former residential, absolutely beautiful Robyn Plummer, he declares himself her protector, and that he must be there for her, as long as she "needed" him. This story tells of their romance, their struggles and the thoughts and shadows that creep inside of the heads of people with OCD.I gave this three stars, because I was actually pleasantly happy with some of the characters. I loved Sweetie/Wendell, as we can see how much he depended and needed Adam. It was adorable. Also, I loved the Support Group idea, and that the group decided to make alter egos based off the works of Stan Lee and Alan Moore. (I loved Iron Man, Green Lantern and Thor the most!) I love Thor, as at first, we hardly see any sort of hint of him being involved in the story, but as the story progresses, we see him coming out of his shell, and supporting Adam all the way. I love how they met in a graveyard as well! The downside? I'm not even going to lie, I wasn't exactly, well, satisfied in the end. The romance, honestly, was weak, and the reason why Robyn had to leave in the end was a bit confusing. Plus, Wolverine did nothing but annoy the shit out of Adam and try to play for Robyn. Weak sort of "antagonist". Plus, Robyn's obsession with Catholicism. Okay, I'm not dissing her because I'm a different religion, but to me, it was sort of annoying. And why Catholicism? She could've tried any other religion, and she chose that. Alright. And conveniently, Adam was a Catholic! Yeah. Not a coincidence at all. Also, their confession to each other. I know love is not always like TFIOS or Romeo and Juliet, but when they confessed, it annoyed the living shit out of me. Like, can't we make this a bit more memorable? I was just rather disappointed in the end, but some bits just made me laugh, some bits made me cringe. For me, an okay book. Could definitely be better, but I didn't loathe it completely. less
