review 1: Great book, but even better what I learned at the end of the book. First, Barbara Rose Johns was one of the most courageous people I've encountered in my reading. In many ways she was the beginning of non-violent civil rights protests and everything she did, she did as a high school student. She was creative and bold. The icing on the cake was at the end of the book when I read that she finished her college degree at Drexel University graduating with a library science degree. She was a school librarian in the Philadelphia school district for 24 years. She must be turning over in her grave to see the decimated state of school libraries in that district. Decimated isn't a harsh enough word!
review 2: This book is very inspirational! It is about a girl Barb
... moreara Rose who wants to change the schools for black children. When she was going to school there were major differences between white schools and black. Barbara Rose inspires many children and adults to follow what they believe in and not to ever give up. I would recommend this book to people who like to read a short book and people who like to read non-fiction. This is a great book for kids 5-8 grade, as I believe that people in the lower grades might not know the back round information on what time period it took place in America. I thought that this book was a great read, but I would only read it once. less
