A Read 'Em and Eat Mystery
review 1: I would give this a 3.5. This author does a fabulous job of describing the area in a few sentences - you feel like you are there in Florida next to the Gulf. It was also a pretty good mystery. I like many of the characters and their mannerisms. I did get annoyed by some of the pettiness of the main character (who cares if someone always says he must 'dash'?). All in all, a good read that you can finish fairly quickly.
review 2: 2.5 Stars. This was only a so-so read for me. The story takes place at Ft. Meyers Beach at the Read 'Em and Eat Café. Sassy and Brigdy are transplanted New Yorkers and co-owners of the café. The murder victim is elderly Delia Baston, a book club/café regular. Her cousin, Augusta Maddox, recruits Sassy to find the killer. To a
... moredd to the complications, the chef of the café is out with a broken leg and is replaced by Bridgy's aunt Ophelia. My biggest problem with the book was no character was fleshed out enough to care about them. A potential love triangle is being set up between Sassy, Cady and Lt. Frank Anthony but it was not made clear that Cady and Sassy were an item. The character I liked the best was Ophelia but it isn't clear if she'll be sticking around once Miguel is back on his feet. I was surprised by one of the revelations concerning Delia but I guessed the murderer. Again, there just didn't seem to be enough backstory to explain it to my satisfaction. I didn't enjoy the first installment enough to continue on with the series. less
