review 1: THIS BOOK WAS PROVIDED AS AN ARC COPY VIA NETGALLEY IN EXCHANGE FOR AN HONEST REVIEW.'Broken skies' was an amazing book. I sat down and read it all in one night. The plot was well structured with many questions left unanswered leaving me to assume there will be a sequel. I loved the introduction and the way in which the Author, Theresa Kay, introduced Jax the main character. The character development t6hroughout the book is enormous as Jax comes to realise that not all is as it seems and not all are who they seem. The revelation that Jax and Jace (Jax's twin brother) are part E'rikan or erk, ,is quite a shock which is hard to do in many novels. I am also a sucker for alien books BUT I found that while other books I have read haven't really focused on character development,... more or a good plot, 'Broken Skies' focuses more on Jax's developing powers and discovery of a whole side to the Erk's than she has ever known. Her relationship with Lir, the Erk or alien that accompanies her on the journey, is also interesting. It is not the usual insta-love, in fact on their first encounter Jax noted his good looks but still defended herself against him and cut his arm. Their relationship, if it can even be called that, is tentative at first but soon blossoms into something more. What follows is continuous lies, betrayals and deception that has been going on for years but Jax wasn't even aware of. I also love the way the author explored Jax's emotions throughout the book and the ending, although bittersweet has many revelations within it. I can't wait until the next book is written and released so I can continue my literary journey with Jax, her companions and her enemies. I recommend this book to anyone who wants an enjoyable read and to be taken on an emotional and action-packed journey.
review 2: First of all I look like crap I stayed up all night to finish this book.I like the cover she looks like a Jax to me.I didn't have to high expectations of this book, since I'm not a avid alien book lover. But tell you what I just added a green hair alien to my book -boyfriend list.Jax is a 17 year old girl living in a world where 90% off the humans have died and where young woman are becoming rare. She lives in a compound with her brother Jace who is also her twin.In this new world aliens/E’rikon live on earth to but segregated there's no interaction between them. One day out at the lake Jace is taken by aliens and Jax will stop at nothing to get her brother back. Even forming an alliance with a E’rikon named Ril. Ril is has green hair and jewel-like scales for some reason Ril can touch Jax when almost nobody can. He 's the only one to help her when she's having panic attacks. Jax and Jace play a big part in saving the world.I loved the world building, the love building. I liked Ril even though I wanted kick his butt a couple of times because he made some dumb decisions. I don't want to wait 5 month for the sequel!!!! I need it now, today. less
