review 1: I really enjoyed the characters in this book. I can't quite put my finger on what the story lacked, except that the pacing seemed a little off. I guess I'm just frustrated by stories where someone's got a deep, dark secret that they're always alluding to but never explaining, and by the time it's finally revealed, you can't help but feel shortchanged--because very few secrets are deep and dark enough to justify all that teasing. In this case, the revelation of the heroine's secret actually made me think less of her--not because of her past, but because she'd apparently not learned anything over the last ten years, which made her seem less smart than I'd been led all this while to believe. Still, I got over it. 3.5 stars.
review 2: I enjoy how Theresa Romain app
... moreroaches the regency romance novel. She always takes a road less traveled and examines concepts or situations that are not discussed in polite society while in the middle of polite society. This one involves a wounded veteran from Waterloo who didn't lose his arm but lost all his ability to use it, and a war widow living as a companion. Nicely done. (a little too much hankypanky for me, but i can always skip over those parts...) less
