review 1: 2.5 stars.I've been meaning to read Carter Reed for quite some time. Going into it, I was hooked. Despite a little suspension of disbelief, I found an intriguing, well-written story in the first half. It was a total five-star book for me, but then the second half started to drag and the heroine began to grate on me. I found that the writing became repetitive and the heroine was basically in a never-ending spiral of crying bouts over her guilt and desiring Carter, sometimes within the same paragraph! It was a little hard to wrap my head around. I pretty much skimmed over the last 25% of the book and I felt like I didn't miss much, plot-wise. I wish the novel could've ended on a stronger note because it's such a great story. It just didn't hit the mark fo... morer me.
review 2: Had this free for some time and after reading Fallen Crest High read Carter Reed. It was just okay for me. I'm not a big mafia book type fan. It's written well and the story has some angst but I just kinda drug out for me.From the Author: Emma decided to skip the gym and went home early. It was the last easy decision she made because she found her roommate being raped by the boyfriend. She had two choices. Call the cops and be killed by his family’s mafia connections or kill him first and hope to survive. There was no choice to her. She killed the bastard first and went to the one person who could protect her. Carter Reed. He’s a weapon for the rivaling mafia family, but he’s also Emma’s secret. Not only was he best friends with her brother, but she’s the reason he became that weapon in the first place. less
