review 1: A very powerful book. It records the mission of Pastor Henry Gerecke during the second World War. It starts off showing how Gerecke treated his mission before the military, and how that climaxed with being one of the chaplains assigned to the Nazi's at Nuremberg. As Christians, we are charged with preaching the Gospel everywhere. As humans, we often struggle reaching out to those who often most need to hear the Word. Gerecke and his fellow chaplain Father O'Connor followed that charge and preached to some of the most hardened hearts of the Nazi elite. The path of Gerecke and O'Connor was one to bring a light to the darkest of hearts. Some questioned if it was even right to offer the Word of God to such as those, but we as Christians are called to do just that. The que... morestion was raised then, and is now, about how true the repentance was for some of those who claimed it. Gerecke and O'Connor both answered as we should all, that is up to God.
review 2: Henry Gerecke was 50 years old when he enlisted as an Army chaplain in WWII. He was a Lutheran preacher from St Louis. He showed his love and compassion in his messages to those at the City Mission as well as his church. He worked tirelessly for The Lord he loved do much. When he was called to minister as chaplain to these men at Nuremberg, these monsters who orchestrated the killing of millions of Jews, he didn't know if he could do it. But after much prayer and time with the Lord, he knew Jesus died for these men as well as each one of us and is willing that none should perish. No not one. Some of these men are in heaven today, rejoicing. Parts of this book are hard to read. It was a dreadful time in a world where God was not welcome. God's love shines through in the humble pastor who lived to honor Him. I highly recommend the book. less

A most excellent while also thoughtful and sobering read. Highly recommend.
