review 1: This book was definitely an interesting one. As it is so often for me, the cover that caught my eye (I love a good minimalist cover) and the snippet on the back really intrigued me so it came home with me from the library in my most recent haul. It was really fast paced. I started and finished it in about six hours and I was never bored or uninterested. However, it was a lot of action and there were times I wish Carter would have slowed down a bit and let plots develop a bit further. For me, there were a few points that I was left unsatisfied, like all the talk about Angels in the book but at no point does an Angel make an appearance. It's a bit disappointing. However, I really liked the way the worlds were set up. The Cupid Center made sense and was well explained. Their ... morepowers had rules and restrictions and they weren't these all-powerful beings. It really amused me that to refuel their Love source, they had to eat what was basically Love fudge. Carter didn't go in to a lot of detail about the high school setting but I didn't mind all that much because a high school is a high school is a high school. The characters got a lot of attention though and that made me happy. I loved that even in death, Fallon was a smart ass and that the head cupid was kind of a total douche. The overall message of the book was kind of cliche and cheesy but undeniably powerful: self love is the strongest source of love and with it, you can fight off any demon that haunts you. This book kind of sugarcoated all the happenings that lead up to the revelation at the end (I mean, the main character's death was ironic and kind of comical instead of tragic), but it's meant to be a light, feel good kind of book so it did its job. It was a good book. It wasn't great or all that profound, but it held my attention and kept me entertained. And it's definitely unique in the fact that it's a lighthearted story about suicide and depression so that's a plus (I think?). 3/5.
review 2: Ricky Fallon spends his afterlife as a Cupid, helping people fall in love. The job would be cool if it weren't for the dorky pink bodysuits, his jerky boss, and attacks from joy-sucking shadowy entities called Suicides. When Fallon discovers a dangerous new breed of Suicide, a terrific battle erupts. Can Ricky save the girl he's falling for? (This is not my review. I copy pasted it from someone else who wrote it. I kinda clicked the wrong thing and then realized after. Sorry original reviewer!) less
