review 1: So I started Sent of a White Rose after dinner yesterday, and I got so into the story I kinda skipped going to bed when I should have and instead finished the book and really really wanted to start the next book but since I had to be up in 4 hours (aka 4:00 am) I forced myself to wait. I thoroughly enjoyed Sent of a White Rose! The transitions between characters were great. Not only were they smooth and picked up where other POV ended, it allowed the reader to gather background information and reasoning to the characters actions in a unobtrusive and natural way as well as letting the reader know what was happening else where in the story that wasn't at the main location and or main characters. This is a story about Rose after her mother was murdered and dealing with her over... more protective father, being the innocent little girl everyone thought she was, tried to become something for the love of her life (Christian) and finds out that it may never happen because of what was revealed about her heritage from the person that murdered her mother and gaining her freedom but not in the way she would have liked.Christian is a vampire, but not the kind of vampire that most stories are based off of. I really like the different take on these vampires, them being light only taking blood that they need to survive and not killing people. And if a vampire goes permanently into the dark it is the responsibility of the Sire to administer the True Death. Christian is in love with Rose and will do anything to for her, the only thing is that he isn't allowed to let her know he is a vampire. In this story he struggles with odd happenings and trying to be with Rose without him telling her what and who he truly is and connecting with Rose around the overbearing rules of her father.I cannot wait to read the next book!!!
review 2: I love to read. I love this paranormal genre. I love books about vampires...I did not love Scent of a White Rose. The writing was very immature coming off of my newfound love for The Hunger Games. The difference between the two styles of writing between Thawer and Collins is simple really...scene vs. summary. I don't want to waste money on being told what is happening in a plot. I want sensory details, feelings, emotional ties to the characters about what's happening in the scene instead of a narrative. Make me invested in your world! Rose is shallow, and Christian is your typical broody vamp- plus they are both horny so we all get to take a trip down raging-hormone-adolescent-lane...but it's cheap and raunchy. I tried, and retried to finish this book over a two week period...I finally gave up today. Maybe A Pulse of Heroes will live up to its indie name! less
