review 1: Audience: The audience for this book is primary elementary school. I feel that 1st, 2nd, and 3rd graders would really enjoy this book. I think that this book would be best suited towards 1st graders because of the colorful pictures in the story. I also like the point that the story is trying to make, you don’t need a “beret” to be an artist, your creativity comes from within yourself. I think that the 2nd and 3rd graders could really pick up on that.Appeal: I think that this book would appeal to 1st, 2nd, and 3rd graders because it teaches them a moral lesson. This book is fun to read and will keep the children’s attention with all the enjoyable pictures within the story. This book would definitely appeal to 1st, 2nd, and 3rd graders who have an interest in art.App... morelication: Prior to reading the book I would take the students on a picture walk. On some of the pages there are little sayings hidden within the pictures and I could read those aloud to peak the interests of the students. After the picture walk, I would then ask for predictions and follow with reading the story aloud to the group. I would cover any unfamiliar vocabulary words, for example beret. There is also a page in the book that does a good job explaining what an artist’s block is; I would make sure to go over that. After reading the book aloud I would then ask the students to pair up with someone and discuss the book.Award List: Nebraska Golden Sower Award Nominee 2012-2013Copyright: 2010
review 2: Audience: The audience for this book is primary elementary school. Because of the page lengths and content I think it would best fit 3rd graders.Appeal: I think this book would appeal to 2nd and 3rd graders because of the amount of independence that Bridget shows. They will enjoy seeing how Bridget continues to paint even after she loses her beret. It is a fun, easy read for children.Application: I might use this book to help with class introductions at the beginning of the school year. I feel it is important that all children have a hobby. The class could use a discussion circle to help share his or her favorite activities, similar to Bridget's love of painting.Award: 2012-2013 Nebraska Golden Sower Award Nominee less
