review 1: The topic of this book was very hard to read but the character were so compelling that I felt driven to read it. I actually read it in about 3 days. It has been about a month and I still think about it. The idea that this kind of evil, this kind of tragedy happens all the time.....saddens me to the very core. But despite all the evil, despite all the pain, there is hope and a light that shines through people faithful to the Lord, obedient to His calling on their lives. SO very painful but so very inspiring all at the same time.
review 2: I wish I could give this book MORE than five stars. It was heart-breaking, and heart-wrenching. I had a VERY difficult time putting it down for any length of time, and became COMPLETELY absorbed in both girls' stories.
... moreLet me warn you: this is NOT an easy read (especially if you have a daughter). The subject is the sex trade/sex slaves. I had difficulty sleeping after reading as my mind kept trying to grasp what happens to these girls. While the characters of this book are fictional, their stories happen daily to sweet, innocent victims around the world. The most difficult for me are the stories of the girls whose parents CHOOSE to sell them into this...because daughters are not valuable enough to keep and feed (for the poverty stricken). I just simply cannot fathom willingly releasing my girl into this kind of a life, and cannot imagine the desperation driving those who do. This book makes you want to take action. It is impossible to look at the easy, blessed lives we have been given (relatively speaking) in the same way after delving into something like this. While the story itself had a few unrealistic parts to it (I believe there would be MUCH more psychological counseling and aftermath after experiencing something like this than the author chose to have her characters go through), the author was successful in opening my eyes even more to the evil, secretive, sick darkness that exists and moved me to pray not only for the safety and protection of my own daughter, but for those who have disappeared and been simply "forgotten" or "nameless" to the rest of the world (and who continue to be trapped against their will in this type of situation). less
