review 1: **POSSIBLE SPOILERS** I got sidetracked reading this little short yesterday because I was in the mood for romance and not tears. I don't know what to say about this story too much, it wasn't bad, but it was great either, just so so. It is about Keena, who at 34 was preparing to walk down the isle and marry her fiancé Steven, but right as the music starts to play for her to walk, Steven's mother comes from the sanctuary and hands Keena the phone. Low and behold, Steven isn't coming because he's run off with her whore of a half sister China! Broken hearted Keena ends up going to a ranch in Colorado to recoup her self esteem and immediately meets the tall sexy simmering and mysterious blue eyed Ryan. Its mutual attraction at first sight, but neither are interested in getting... more involved, but they end up fooling around anyway. Keena can't figure out the pull of Ryan and why it seems like his eyes go from a deep blue to almost black sometimes. Well, what made this interracial romance a little different was the fact that Ryan is a vampire. There were lots of scenes that weren't too believable to me, and at some times Keena was a total naïve pain in my ass. I found the story, I don't know, lacking in some ways, but like I said, it wasn't too bad or too good.
review 2: Rein In The Night by Tressie Lockwood is a relatively short story and features a mortal who falls for an immortal. The plot starts out on an expectant note as the heroine is left at the altar on her wedding day. This leaves the door wide open for many possibilities and what follows is very entertaining. I loved that hero Ryan Storms’s secret is not revealed until the very end, although there are little hints throughout the novel that Ryan is more than meets the eyes. Rein In The Night is a contemporary romance with paranormal influences as the hero happens to be a vampire. This is an interesting concept and the story is developed in a very credible manner, resulting in an enjoyable story. The main characters are an interracial couple but their ethnic differences mean little in the grand scheme of things. It is the issue of his mortality that will decide whether these two star-crossed lovers have a future together.Keena Law is jilted on her wedding day and making matters worse; her half sister is responsible for the demise of her wedding. Heartbroken and needing time to reevaluate what she wants out of life, Keena travels to a working ranch in Colorado. Despite her plans to swear off all men, she is immediately drawn to ranch hand Ryan Storm. His body language says stay away but his eyes hold promises of passion Keena longs to experience. She figures what could possibly go wrong with just a bit of hot and heavy over the next two weeks? Keena does not count on falling for Ryan but this is exactly what happens. Unfortunately she is not the only woman vying for Ryan’s affections and the actions of her competitor almost results in Keena’s death and the revelation of Ryan’s heavily guarded secret. Keena is floored and, unable to cope with the discovery, she returns home. As time passes, Keena realizes despite Ryan’s condition she loves him and wants to be by his side forever and ever and ever.~ Susan for ARe Cafe less
