review 1: Not a lot to say about this book - just a typical chick lit. Saccharine sweet 'chocolate box' romance, poorly written and edited (even to the extent that the author mistakenly switches tense halfway through a sentence sometimes!). Dragged on far too long and in a very repetitive fashion (how many Sunday high teas, glances over the garden fence and unexpected visits from the ex-fiancé to 'throw a spanner in the works' and have some crossed wires to add drama, need to be included - we get the message loud and clear!), and then was all neatly wrapped up with a bow within the space of a few pages - the barren spinster gets pregnant after one night stand with her new true love and then they have a beautiful white wedding with the dog, the cat and the whole happy village in at... moretendance. The End.
review 2: Lovely Trisha Ashley, and her lovely, uncomplicated, practical, indefatigable heroines. In this one,the heroine opens a successful wedding shoes shop and falls in love with her dishy neighbour, all while continuing to write and illustrate her series of best selling children's books and do an improbably large amount of baking. The setting of Sticklepond is still rural and cosy without being claustrophobic and as a plus we catch up with characters from previous books. In its own way it's as unattainable a life as anything set in New York or Paris but it's such a comfy read it's hard to mind. less
