review 1: In this book, a tiny kitten grow into a literal tiger. This book has cute illustrations and will provoke giggles from the younger set. However, I'm docking it a star because I really wish modern children's books would stop showing people buying kittens and puppies at pet stores. We all know (or should know) about breeding mills by now, and the image of the puppy in the window has gone from cute and harmless to irresponsible.
review 2: Miss Bell loves cats. She really does. Then she gets a kitten who she names Tiger. Tiger grows, and grows, and grows. It turns out that the name was a wise one. Still, "cats are cats," Miss Bell reasons. When Tiger wants a pet he gets a fish. Cats love fish, after all. However, one of his fish grows and grows and grows into a shar... morek--a cute shark, but a shark nonetheless. Still, Miss Bell is philosophical. "Fish are fish," she says. This story frolics along from absurdity to absurdity, all with an inner sensibility that makes it work. Young audiences should enjoy it, and perhaps it might work well in a story hour combined with "A Fish Out of Water." less
