review 1: Val chapter's her life with her dress size. Her first husband dies....she is able to fit into those Red pants, her new fad diet is working.....size 8 dress. We journey with the author from her childhood in a Weight Watcher's class into adulthood. Her father brings home some experimental diet powder, her mother watches her every bite, and she drags us along her journey where most of her thoughts rest on weight, diet, and food. Her daughter hit it rite on the head one day when the cute little girl said that the author was in rebellion. As she entered into her adulthood, I started to respect the book tremendously. The author's work, her growing up and seeking outside help, and her transformation into her "I'm not dieting" lifestyle will empower many.I loved her candid ways, ... moreher funny Jewish lingo, her honest friends, and her restored relationship with the same mother who started this whole mess in the first place. I only gave it 4 out of 5 because of all the sexual talk....ohhh....geeez, but that's what sell's......so Cheers to you Valerie!
review 2: Surprisingly enough, I liked this book. Not the author's lifestyle or attempts to self-medicate her poor body image, but the kaleidoscopic observations about the scars of her past rang true, occasionally poignant and amusing. Not laugh-out-loud funny as she is more into puns (groan) but it is fascinating how two very different paths can end up with the same conclusion: our bodies are pretty amazing for what they can do, not for what they look like. less

This is a very entertaining memoir that I would recommend to any women who's ever been on a diet.
