review 1: This was a pretty fun and light read. It is, essentially, one person's struggle to try and make green living a gritty reality rather than a noble idea. The author also presents some handy-dandy monthly lists of her daily green goals. I found it interesting to compare her efforts with the things that Patrick and I have done, are doing, have tried to do, or are considering doing. Why didn't *we* think of writing a book, or a blog?
review 2: This is one of the funniest and most inspiring books I've read in a long time. Vanessa writes very openly about the trials and tribulations of making one new green change in her life every day for a year, and about some of the other things going on in her life at the same time, such as a residential move and looking for love. ... moreSome green changes are trivial, like taking lukewarm showers, sleeping naked, or not shaving her legs. Some are momentous, like selling her car. A significant part of the year is spent dealing with food, trying to eat locally, sustainably, organically, and so on. In the end, the author seems to have truly changed her attitudes and behaviours. While she clearly found the self-imposed challenge trying at times, with some distance she manages to see, and convey, the humour that is so necessary to facing all of life's challenges. And along the way, she makes a powerful case for how many of us can live with a little less impact on the planet. less
