review 1: Having read biographies of Nimitz, Leahy and King, I was curious of the content. Walter Borneman produced not only a good read but real insight into strategy and the politics involved. Well researched and accurate as well as readable, I don't see that in many books. The author had a way of dividing the book into meaningful parts that flowed together. I have bought this book for others. Truly a good read.
review 2: Very much enjoyed this captivating account that's outside my typical choice in book (I prefer short and easy-to-read and this is neither). Despite it's density and length, Borneman tells an exciting story of these four men, their achievements, and the history of the navy -- topics which were nearly entirely new to me.
