review 1: Heidi is eight and going to public school for the first time. No more backyard cafeteria, or treehouse classroom for her. She is NOT excited. Book one takes us through her horrible first day but ends in a cliffhanger about what she has in mind for her second day. This will be a great series for students in grades 1-3. I had a teacher read it to her 3rd grade afterschool group and even the boys liked it.
review 2: I was SO excited the whole time I read this book! Finally, a book about a NORMAL girl, with no ridiculous quirks. ... moreut the emotions of being the new girl in school, the target of a bully, and the hope for a new friend to a sweet classmate. I loved her relationship with her little brother, which was both sides of siblings - a struggle and a sweet spot. And then, the clincher, came on the last page. I was SO disappointed with the way that she decides to solve her problem with the bully. I have too many students that, culturally, cannot read anything to do with witchcraft, so it was such a let-down after I thought I had found a PERFECT series for my readers. I am off to the store to buy the second book, in the hopes that the witch dynamic surely doesn't take over the rest of the series.... here's to hopin'! less
