review 1: This is the third copy of this book that I have purchased. The copy that I use regularly is taped together at the binding, and is noted quite heavily. I grew up with the Westminster Standards, and have grown to love them. Every page has an abundance of deep thought and devotion that puts to shame almost everything that is being written and published today that claims to be "deep" thinking. There is absolutely no comparison to what is being written by the so-called "Word of Faith" thinkers. This shows the great depth of Biblical thinking that went into the work of the Westminster Assemblies. Much of today's writings are based on what the writer thinks the Bible says, rather than deducing what the Bible actually says through a thorough study of it, rather than a "free will" ... morecritique. I like this edition's rendition of Chapter 25, section six of the Confession of Faith. This will give you more to think about on one page (for instance, on almost any question from the WLC expounding the Decalogue, or on justification by faith in the Confession), than almost all the junk being published today. As the children said to Saint Augustine, "Take it, and read it" and learn more about our glorious Lord and Saviour.
review 2: Actually read all the way through the whole thing, extra confessional documents and all. I even read all the pre-ambles to all the documents! Now, that is an accomplishment, especially given the fact that some of it is written in prosaic 17th century legal jargon. But it was great to finally read through the Solemn League and Covenant, the Directory for Public Worship, etc. There's plenty of wisdom to be found in these documents. The most amazing thing to me about this whole endeavor though, is the fact that some 150 of the most brilliant and godly men living at that time were able to actually get together and agree on all that they ended up agreeing on. (Especially considering that a handful of Scottish Presbyterian delegates were at the Assembly. And they weren't even allowed to vote!) less

This is a complete publication of the finished work of the Westminster Divines. Excellent.

Somehow it seems strange to apply the star rating system to the WCF...
