review 1: 2.5 StarsOk... I would like to start off by saying the writing is good in this book. It flows nicely. But over all... I don't think this book was for me. I thought it would be different.I thought this book would be a romance with a bit of political edge to it. But that wasn't it at all. There's hardly any romance in this book. And the parts that were romantic felt cold and impersonal.I felt like John/Peter was always just trying to get off(have sex with people). To run away from his problems. I felt this book was more about a man trying to come to terms with his life falling apart. He was so lost and always thinking of the past. I found myself loosing interest right away in this book. I guess it was Johns description of how his life was. He sounded boring and he was a work... moreaholic. He let a lot of things go and put his job first. His long term relationship with his partner David fell apart. Because John couldn't balance his work life with his private life. His job was pretty much everything to him. This book had details overload... I mean... I like to know some details on people, place and things... But some of the things written just seemed like filler to me. It was way to much. I would have preferred more interaction with people than John's internal struggles and dialogue. The relationship between Danny and John... Felt really cold and off. I didn't get that warm and fuzzy feeling with them. I wanted to feel the passion.. The want.. Of them coming together. You absolutely do not get that in this book.Overall... I just couldn't connect with John. I tried... But... I think being in the business of politics... Sets a person up for not letting their guard down or showing affection and it came across in this book. John was not an easy person to like. This book was ok... But...unfortunately not for me.*ARC provide for an honest review*
review 2: I just finished this book, and I have gotta say I felt like I needed a nerve pill! It was a wonderful, wild ride of twists and turns that will leave you breathless. This is author Will Freshwater's first novel, and you would never be able to tell it. Smart dialog, and nerve wracking plot twists that will make your hair stand on end. This book shows us that when we seemingly lose it all, what we lose turns out to be what we never should have wanted in the first place! Pick this book up, you won't be sorry! less
