review 1: Jeff and Brad watched each other for months before Brad got the courage to ask Jeff out to coffee. Jeff knew Brad to be a werewolf and has a high position in his pack immediately, while Brad was still catching up to figure out who and what is Jeff. After their secrets were revealed, they both have to deal with their families' animosity and history of wolves vs. snakes. The mystery plot started when a cougar from Brad's pack visits Jeff's bookstore wearing a pair of snakeskin boots. The color and pattern of the skin was the same as Jeff's anaconda ex-boyfriend. Someone was killing weres and skinning them to make accessories. Were the boots a beware message to Jeff's pit or were they a challenge to a council ruling against the Duke's pack (who supported wolf supremacy) years... more ago? There could have been more suspense in the mystery and not all loose ends were tied. We never knew why Jeff's brother, Tucker, mentioned the ex, attacked Brad, and revealed the pit to the human, Kim. He just had a "lapse in judgement." As a whole, the plot was secondary to Jeff's and Brad's romance and sex scenes. There were just too many sex scenes and the sex was way out there (you can read the other reviews that go into detail on the sex). I don't mind that so much but the repeated endearments for their sexual organs were too much for me. I really liked that the author incorporated the conflict of animal skins and other animals part to make into accessories. And it's from the animal shifters' point of view, which makes the matter closer to heart. My favorite part was the zoo scene that shows how humans, animals, and weres interact in this world that the author created. Overall, this was an entertaining read and fans of shifter stories should give this book a try.
review 2: Okay, I'm a little bit conflicted here. On the one hand, you have a sometimes really funny story with pretty inventive if sometimes slightly disturbing imagery and great twists and ideas (the were boa thing was brilliant, as was the part about the special anatomy bits. And, common, the part about meeting your ex in the form of Snakeskin Boots? Awesome!!)On the other hand, the writing seemed a bit immature sometimes, and so did the characters - at least Jeff. I didn't really see any great depth here. We don't get to know all that much about the world either, how it works exactly, what it all entails. And Jeff was a bit too much for me. Too perfect. Shy and insecure, but also strong and resilient and courageous. He takes charge and finds solutions, but he's also oh so nice. And he's also gorgeous, even though he thinks he is totally ugly. I think, you get what I mean. And yes, this book was really funny at times, but sometimes the humour was a little bit too forced, trying too hard. As if Jeff, whose perspective we're served here, wanted to show how funny and cool he is, even in moments where that just seems slightly pathetic. It reminded me a bit too much of my teenager years I guess.I really liked Brad though, straightforward, clear in his intentions, and no-bullshitting around. Calling them as he sees them and completely smitten from the beginning to the end. So, yes, a different take on the whole shifter thing, funny and entertaining for the most part, but nothing I'll remember for very long. less

I'll never be able to walk through a produce section without thinking of Brad....

This was a fun and quirky spin on the usual shifter story.
