review 1: There is a lot of hidden homophobia in this book. Closet cases who are self-loathing -- what fun!Police officer Brandt goes undercover in a video porn frat house for reasons that are unclear -- is it because his boss is an incredible right wing homophobe? Or is it because the owners of the video porn site are tax evaders? (We find out in the last three chapters of the book.). Whatever the reason, Brandt infiltrates the video porn house, and becomes one of the models immediately. His mentor is a "straight boy" named Nick, and there appears to be chemistry between the two of them. Despite this, Brandt keeps deluding himself that he is straight. (Yeah, right.). Well he masturbates on video for the first time, and then his career in video porn takes off, and he enters in... moreto a period of self-loathing and self-realization. Brandt leaves his first video porn session and meets with his police partner named Donnelly. There is a familiarity between Brandt and Donnelly and, if this follows normal m/m romantic etiquette, will end up in a love affair. There is no suspense about the love affair. Here is how the love affair starts. Brandt becomes an overnight sensation on the porn website. An auction is planned for a private video with Brandt. The police department had intended to offer up to $19,000 for the private one-on-one video of Brandt. It ends up that the amount of the highest bid was 24,000. Much to Brandt's surprise, the winning bidder was his partner, Donnelly. In the middle of the video, we all learn that Donnelly has the hots for Brandt, and Brandt has the hots for Donnelly. After the video session is over, the two partners meet at Brandt's apartment and make out and profess their love for one another. And that is when this book begins to fall apart. It goes from a good story with incidental sex, to one sex act after another without any appreciable story. To be perfectly honest, the repeated descriptions of the sex between Donnelly and Brandt got so boring I was flipping through tens of pages just to get it over with. In the end, the author attempts to cure the train wreck by throwing together a real police story, but it just falls short. It took me two weeks to read this book, which is not s good thing for the author. When it is a compelling story, I read it ravenously and rarely take more than two days to finish a book. This one -- not so much. Three stars from me.
review 2: I should have liked this book more than I did. I love GFY, not to mention a double GFY! I love MCs with witty dialog and a sense of humor. And I love entertaining secondary characters (hello Bryce and Nestor!). But for some reason the story didn’t really click with me. Brandt and Donnelly went from being completely heterosexual (and making sure each other knew it!) to being 100% in love in less than 24 hours. Maybe it happens that way for some people. It all just seemed a bit rushed to me.I did enjoy the book, just not as much as I thought I would. Thanks for the BR Sandi and Cory!! less
