review 1: So I think...just maybe...I might have liked this even better than the first one, and I LOVED the first one. Of course, Ethan and Gabriel were a big part of the story, but they didn't have the biggest impact on me. Who did? A couple of 18 year old kids that stuck together through a huge shit storm that was brewing around them. They definitely had some support, but the way they were there for each other was a true testament to friendship and I really loved reading every second of it.The book starts out with Bryce and Nestor. I mean, come on, you have to love these two right? They are a little over the top. Okay, they are a lot over the top. But they have pure hearts and they wouldn't hurt anyone, so it's easy to overlook that they put the capital H in Homo. They ha... moreppen to stumble upon a video where someone is changing in a locker room and the person on the video isn't aware that they are on camera. That certain someone, is Jonah, an 18 year old star wrestler in a backward ass town that still lives like they are in Walnut Grove (for all you Little House on the Prairie fans).Turns out, someone is video taping Jonah without his knowledge and the chief of police wants Brandt and Donnelly to help investigate the situation. Thus the story begins. A few highlights for me:*Malcolm - He lives in Woodley and runs a coffee shop. The first time Brandt and Donnelly are in the shop, Donnelly starts some harmless flirting with Malcolm, and a friendship between the three starts. The flirting is truly harmless, because Donnelly is totally in love with Brandt, but it does open up for some humorous dialogue between the two as Brandt teases Donnelly about it. Turns out, Malcolm has a part time worker who is also on the wrestling team....enter Casey.*Casey - To say that I loved Casey is a huge understatement. I mean, he was AWESOME! The best friend to Jonah, and he definitely lived up to what a best friend should be. Lifelong friends and they didn't let outside distractions into their relationship. Casey never gave anything but his total support to Jonah and always made sure that Jonah knew he was on his side. He really made the book for me. *Brandt and Donnelly - I really liked the way they took Casey and Jonah under their wings. It was nice to see that the kids had some adults in their corner when even Jonah's family wasn't the best in supporting him. Casey, along with Casey's mom, showed Jonah the same great support that Brandy and Donnelly did. B&D are a great couple and they were perfect role models for Casey and Jonah. All in all I really enjoyed this one and would definitely read more if this series continues!
review 2: Read by MM Good Book Reviews This is book two in this amazing series about two wonderful police officers helping out two amazing young men. These stories should be read in order not only will it tell you more about Brandt and Donnelly but it gives you an insight into what each story is like. This has a bit of humor in it but mainly it is told with such a serious tone that will make you think you are there watching it instead of reading a book. However I must warn you that parts of this story will tear you up and make you madder than ever. Jonah is the star wrestler for a high school a few miles from where Brandt and Donnelly live. He was caught on video after taking a shower. The first one was just of his butt, however the local police thought they needed to get it stopped before it hit the internet. Which bring our two fantastic police officers on to the case. The video's start showing just a bit more, till one shows a reaction for a fellow teammate. His best friend Casey that is.Casey has known Jonah his whole life, and they have been friends for that long also. When Casey got sick with cancer Jonah was the one that took care of him in those embarrassing moments. He has always know he loved Jonah for it, but it wasn't until the videos showed up that he found he loved him even more. When the video showed Jonah getting aroused by Casey, he was upset but he realized he would stand by Jonah no matter what. When Jonah and Casey were shown that particular video by Brandt and Donnelly Jonah reacted even more panicky then expected. He had ran away, but it was his best friend who knew where he would go. What he had not expected was Jonah giving completely up and trying to commit suicide. Thank god he had arrived in time to save him. He knew that he would be there for Jonah no matter what. Even when Jonah admits that he wanted Casey in the way of a couple. However he did not know how to say it. So Casey takes him out on a gay day. Shopping, eating dinner meeting some friends of Brandt and Donnelly. Then the worst happened Jonah's family kicked him out of their home for being gay. Casey decided to stay right there with him, even holding him when he cried. Then Casey realizes that Jonah is not the only one in love, but that Casey was in love with Jonah. Late one night Jonah's family goes to him and forces him into a intervention for gays. Casey knew something had to happen, he had to get Jonah free. Brandt and Donnelly were working hard on finding out who made the video's and put them on the web. They were also bound and deteremined to help Casey and Jonah even more now then ever. They knew that Jonah had been doing wrestling forever and that he had been working on getting a scholarship to a university, but with the video's out there for the world to see they were worried that Jonah was going to loose more than just his family. This story will tear your heart strings up. It shows the reaction that many religious people have towards gays and lesbians. The fact that Jonah's family do exactly what happens in real life makes it even more hard to understand. It is so very believeable that you will end up crying through most of the story. I love how Xavier can bring such a heart tearing story to light. It shows what does happen to many teen's every day and that these two young men had the strength to fight it. It tears me up just thinking about it. They had the strength and will power to over come all the pain and anguish and turn it into a true miracle. It shows how much love there is between them. It also shows that even at first Casey was not gay, he loved his bestfriend enough to stay by his side through out the whole painful deal. It made it even better when he realizes that he loves him in all ways. That is true friendship. I can not wait to read more in this series and will definitely be checking out more of Xavier's books. He has an amazing gift and I am glad to have had a chance to read his books. I can guarentee that you will love this story and that if you don't cry at least once you just don't understand. I would recommend this book and the first one to anyone looking for a story so tender and special. less
