review 1: This is the kind of book that makes me want to read, the kind that makes me want to be a better writer, the kind that makes me want to shove it into everyone else's hands. If you're not a fan of unconventional formatting it may not be for you. If you are a fan of gorgeous prose put forth in a bafflingly compelling way, this book will make you, like me, stay up until 2am finishing and then lamenting its completion.
review 2: This book was about a large-animal vet whose son is shot in a hunting accident, sending him into a coma. The protagonist thinks that a space ship is in the area and wants to contact it for information about the incident. Somehow, the author manages to blend a lovely family story with some bizarre, surreal elements and make it endearing and c... moreharming. The story is told in the form of news briefs: "what I said to the wife", "what I thought about on the drive home", etc. This was a sweet story, one that left me feeling hopeful about family and everyday life. less
