review 1: Zakk Wylde, one of the best guitarists in the metal/hard rock scene, has written a book full of hilarious stories during his career as a touring musician. The stories span from his beginnings, to joining up with Ozzy, to going solo, and continuing with his main band Black Label Society. He pokes fun at the co-author Eric Hendrikx, band members (mostly bassist JD), band management, friends, and family (especially his wife Barbaranne). Hilarious Ozzy stories are found here too, which are always good to hear. There is plenty of retaliative commentary from some of the people that he pokes fun at. The book is very easy to read and the pages turn quickly. I also found his Viking language to be entertaining when he talks about different situations, such as his crotchal Mjollnir a... morend the Odinforce. But in between all the hilarity and ridiculousness there are bits of wisdom geared towards musicians and just about anyone who wants to do anything big in life; Sayings like GIFD and the three Black Label R's - Revenge, Retaliation, Retribution - are all about getting off your ass and working towards your goals no matter what gets in the way. I'm sure all BLS fans will enjoy this book and hopefully nobody's Black Label feelings were hurt too much during the reading of this magickal tome.
review 2: I love Zakk, and this book - his hilarious outtake on life - just makes me wish I could hang out with the guy even more. Funny stories from his personal life, tour bus, touring, and band mates (seriously, i was laughing outloud at parts). LOTS of toilet humor (literally), dick jokes, and other debauchery. I rank this book up there with Mötley Crüe: The Dirt. Overall, great message for aspiring artists: it's relentless, never ending hard work to make it, and you will be taken advantage of by anyone and everyone. less
