review 1: This is a wordless picture book, and my children (ages 10, 8, and 5) all loved it. It reminds me a bit of Harold and the Purple Crayon...similar concept, but the illustrations are so rich and detailed. A young girl is lonely, so she draws a door which leads her on quite an adventure. The use of color and black/white/gray helps depict the mood and draws the eye to important but small details. Wonderful!
review 2: This beautifully illustrated book has so much detail in such simple illustrations. A young girl wants someone to play with, but everyone in her family is too busy. She finds a red marker and draws a door in her bedroom wall. She then begins on an adventure using her red marker to create what she needs. What she really needs is a friend, but as ... moreshe helps a trapped bird she finds exactly what she needs. Great opportunities for predicting and story writing in this book. less
