review 1: Quest by Aaron Becker is full of adventure, mystery, danger, daring and of course gorgeous illustrations. As two young friends make their way through the park, they are met by a curious visitor. A king who passes along some magical items and a quest that he needs completed. Suddenly he is abducted and the two young heroes are off! Through magical lands their bravery and ingenuity are tested at every turn. Becker picks up where Journey left off and does so once again without words. His intricately detailed pictures will push young imaginations to the edge, while leaving readers breathless with beautiful landscapes and heroic daring. From page to page the fantastic lands fill every inch of space with color. The sketchy drawing style of the humans in the story do not in any w... moreay detract from the glory of their surroundings and story.
review 2: Stunning! Once again a fantastical world is opened up to us as The Journey continues in The Quest. Starting off from where the first book left us, we see the little girl with the magical red crayon and her friend, the little boy with the purple crayon, witnessing the kidnapping of a king. They spring into action, following a map that leads them through castles, underwater ruins, jungles and more. Once again the artist takes our breaths away with the breadth of places he portrays. Each one explored is filled with an incredible amount of creativity, detail, and colour. Without words to express the story it is solely up to the illustrations, and they do it perfectly. The various hues in particular serve the important function of creating atmosphere; purple lighting in the underwater ruins gives a sense of wonder, while the gradually mounting greys create an ominous tone as the children's pursuers get closer. A dash of colour ruins their schemes though, when a rainbow sweeps away the gloom. By using their magic crayons and imaginations, the young girl and boy once again have their happy ending. less
