review 1: A great sequel to the first book Scarlet. Once again a fast paced read, only this time the relationship between Scarlet and Robin evolves more quickly. Their relationship and character development was one of my favorite parts of this second book. If able, I would actually rate this book 4.5 r/t the disfigurement of a main character, which in my mind took things a little far in the forms of punishment (albeit true to the times). Some might criticize Robin's change of behavior towards serving the people but if you read the book it is readily explained that he is weary of devoting his life in the form of violence towards others, having to acquiescent to decisions that are not his own. He just wants peace, community prosperity and a family to call his own. The cliff hanger ... moreending is expected and leaves me curious for the next book. I highly recommend this book as well!
review 2: Well this was a surprising, and depressing, addition to the series. I'm not sure how it's all going to turn around. Between Mirian's identity, Robin's job, John's death and the prince's manipulations, it seems pretty hopeless. I hope this is only a trilogy, because I don't know if I can handle this much drama longer than that! Alas, I shall have to wait, as the 3rd book doesn't even have a title yet.... less
