review 1: The title is actually "Adam Robison and Other Poems" - by the poet Adam Robinson. That's important. I read this book a couple of years ago, and found it a bit precious, but entertaining, refreshing. I think I lost the book, sadly, so I can't say much more. I remember "Adam Robison" is sort of a character, or persona that the poet puts on. Maybe the preciousness is part of the persona. I remember I really liked the poem "Glenn Tipton" - kids who grew up in the 1980s will esp. relate
review 2: "Curtis Ebbesmeyer, Leading Authority on Flotsam," "I'm Going to have sex with these people," and "Party on Excellent Man" are poems I never get tired of hearing or rehearsing in my head." I'm going to keep this book around for when reading poems makes me feel stupid and sl... moreow and that it is my fault that I cannot describe what a poem is about on any level. Adam's poems deal with their subjects--"Glenn Tipton," "That Movie Downfall"--through series of direct, often funny, disarming propositions. There's an integrity behind the steadfastness of his attention and, as a consequence, it never feels like what the poem is saying is retreating into obscurity, even when these propositions fold into or contradict one another. What they are saying is right there and present, like a sweating, breathing thing. less
