review 1: I read The Shoemakes Wife by Trigiani which was loosely based on her Grandmothers life. So when I found this I was excited to read more. I found the baseline of the other book with the Italian grandmother. These women were strong working women and ahead of their times. While some of this was interesting, mostly because of comparisons with my own family, it turned into a self help book. It had advice and got a bit preachy.
review 2: I was surprised how much of this book is in her fiction books. She has freely used her grandmother's life's for stories in her books. Much of the book is about how her grandmothers influenced her life and made her feel special. I was surprised that she didn't tell more about her mother and father. They are barely mentioned, but m... moreaybe they will be another book. Love the recipes at the end of the book. Can't wait to try them. less
