review 1: I liked many things about this book -- the open-eyed descriptions of the dismal setting, the sympathetic teens at the center of the story, the suggestion of menace shimmering beneath it all -- but too much was too vague for my taste. And I had a hard time remembering who each secondary character was. It was compelling enough to pull me through to the end of the novel, but not enough to stay with me.
review 2: I think if you expected a grisly adaptation of some twisted stuff that actually happened (which I am not against at all) you would be very disappointed by this book. However, if you're open to a fantastical, meandering tale with a very flexible (a nice way of saying unstructured) trail, then this is an entertaining little book (the one I read was, actuall
... morey, quite little). That's all, nothing remarkable, but not without value. less

Wonderfully grim-read it with a fever, very fitting. Am taking library fines to read it sober.

Haunting and beautifully written. Interesting blurred edges between reality and dark magic.

Reads like a meta-physical rural Twin Peaks but much darker
